He had clearly stepped in to shut it down, yet she still insisted on getting up to do it.<\/p>\n
Stella kept her voice even. “It was just a small favor. I didn’t want to see you and Jasper fighting over something so trivial.”<\/p>\n
“So, you were doing it for my sake?” Jarrod asked, his dark gaze locking onto her.<\/p>\n
Stella couldn’t tell if he was pleased or annoyed.<\/p>\n
She offered a gentle smile. “If you think it’s inappropriate, Mr. Fuller, I won’t do it again.”<\/p>\n
Seeing her act so submissive and perfectly compliant gave Jarrod the frustrating sensation of punching a wall of cotton.<\/p>\n
He ground his jaw, entirely losing his patience for the conversation.<\/p>\n
The car fell back into a heavy silence.<\/p>\n
Half an hour later, they pulled up to The Sterling Residences.<\/p>\n
Assuming Jarrod would be heading back out to figure out weekend plans with Chloe, Stella opened the door and stepped out on her own.<\/p>\n
“By the way, Mr. Fuller, I’ll tell my dad to stop spreading those rumors.”<\/p>\n
With that, she shut the door and walked straight toward the entrance.<\/p>\n
The driver glanced at the rearview mirror. “Boss, are you not getting out?”<\/p>\n
Jarrod scowled. “She shut the door. How the hell am I supposed to get out?”<\/p>\n
The driver went speechless.<\/p>\n
Ten seconds later, the driver hurried around to open the door, and Jarrod stepped out, his movements slow and deliberate.<\/p>\n
Stella had barely taken a sip of water in the living room when she heard footsteps behind her.<\/p>\n
She turned to see Jarrod walking in. His dark eyes were stormy, his entire demeanor radiating irritation.<\/p>\n
Spotting his mood, Mrs. Higgins wisely retreated to her room.<\/p>\n
Stella had no choice but to ask, “Do you want some water?”<\/p>\n
He completely ignored her, striding past her and heading straight upstairs.<\/p>\n
