He asked mockingly, “Did you peek at her phone password?”<\/p>\n
“No way! I’m not that kind of scumbag!”<\/p>\n
Jasper proceeded to recount the incident at the restaurant, explaining how Skylar and Logan had come over to say hello.<\/p>\n
“That woman sounded all sweet and polite, but she was obviously just bringing her man over to show him off to Stella!”<\/p>\n
Jarrod vaguely pieced together what might have happened, but he still asked in an agonizingly indifferent tone, “Showing off what?”<\/p>\n
“Showing off that she has that man now, duh.”<\/p>\n
Jasper continued, “My guess is that guy used to be someone Stella liked. When she saw them all wrapped around each other, Stella’s face looked totally stiff. That woman absolutely knew it too, which is why she was putting on such a sickly sweet act!”<\/p>\n
Jarrod went completely silent.<\/p>\n
“Jarrod, don’t ever abandon Stella just to run off to another woman again. She might not say anything to your face, but she’s definitely hurt inside!”<\/p>\n
Jasper adopted an unusually earnest, adult-like tone. “Start treating Stella better. It’s not like she’s completely stuck with you, you know!”<\/p>\n
With that final piece of advice, Jasper hung up the phone.<\/p>\n
Jarrod’s expression froze into a cold, hard mask.<\/p>\n
He opened his chat log with Stella. Ever since they parted ways around noon, she hadn’t sent him a single text.<\/p>\n
Right before he drove off, he had explicitly told her to “call him if she needed anything.” At the very least, she should have texted him after she and Jasper split up.<\/p>\n
