\nThree Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 13<\/p>\n
Lawrence was still there, just like she thought he would be.<\/p>\n
He stood tall and striking, the kind of presence you notice right away. Bonnie tilted her head and knocked on the security booth window.<\/p>\n
The security guard poked his head out. \u201cWhat\u2019s wrong, miss?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSomeone\u2019s following me,\u201d Bonnie said. \u201cCould you keep an eye out, and don\u2019t let him in?\u201d<\/p>\n
The guard immediately got serious, grabbing his walkie-talkie and opening the door so Bonnie could slip inside first. As she walked a few steps in, Lawrence automatically started to follow.<\/p>\n
The guard zeroed in on him, ready to scold, but Lawrence\u2019s cold, steady stare met his gaze. His face was unreadable, but you could tell he wasn\u2019t someone to pick a fight with.<\/p>\n
Honestly, he didn\u2019t look like the type who\u2019d stalk a girl.<\/p>\n
The guard glanced at him for another moment, still suspicious, but then finally let it go.<\/p>\n
Lawrence pressed his fingers to his brow, rubbing until his skin turned red. Bonnie was gone. He couldn\u2019t see her anymore, and it hit him\u2026coming here tonight had been a mistake.<\/p>\n
He fished for his cigarettes, only to find the pack empty. Annoyance flickered through him as he headed into the convenience store next door.<\/p>\n
He bought a new pack, but when he was about to light up, this image of Bonnie flashed across his mind\u2014her covering her mouth, looking queasy.<\/p>\n
She really was sensitive. Her stomach was delicate, and the tiniest whiff of something she didn\u2019t like would set her off.<\/p>\n
He hadn\u2019t even smoked, only drank on rare occasions. If he ever did, Bonnie would wrinkle her pretty nose and frown at him.<\/p>\n
Most times, Lawrence played along, teasing her and kissing her until she was out of breath, annoyed and flustered, giving him those big eyes, teary with fake outrage.<\/p>\n
Other times, he just went for a shower.<\/p>\n
Afterward, Bonnie would curl up in his arms, nuzzling his pajama collar, then smile into his shoulder and tell him he smelled good.<\/p>\n
Bonnie was so different when it was just the two of them. She was playful and always laughing, like a mischievous little fox who\u2019d gotten away with something. Her hands would wander under his pajamas, counting each muscle she found.<\/p>\n
She claimed each one as hers.<\/p>\n
Lawrence\u2019s hand instinctively went for a cigarette, but he caught himself\u2014he didn\u2019t have any left. His fingers curled and then dropped back to his side.<\/p>\n
He stood at the door for a little while, then finally went inside.<\/p>\n
Hannah heard him come in and quickly stood up. She wore a nightgown, her long hair down around her shoulders. She clicked off the TV.<\/p>\n
\u201cMommy!\u201d Jasper pouted, his words still not quite clear. \u201cCartoon!\u201d<\/p>\n
Hannah knelt next to him, keeping her voice gentle. \u201cCome on, Jasper, Daddy\u2019s home. Let\u2019s turn off the cartoons, okay? How about Mommy and Daddy play with your toys for a little bit, then we all go to bed?\u201d<\/p>\n
Jasper blinked those big eyes, the spitting image of his mom, and nodded.<\/p>\n
He was still just a little kid, and you could see the happiness on his face. Hannah took his hand and moved to hug Lawrence, but Lawrence leaned down and scooped Jasper up into his arms.<\/p>\n
Hannah\u2019s smile faded, her hands dropping in awkwardness.<\/p>\n
